Using Styled Text
Molecular Vision's special formatting mechanism provides a way of identifying text that must be italicized, superscripted, or subscripted. Molecular Vision does not want authors to use bold text in submissions, so no mechanism is provided. Bold text is only used for headings; authors do not need to use bold text in headings as it will be added during editing.
All styled text is identified by leading and trailing dollar signs ($). Between the dollar signs, the type of styling is identified by an additional leading and trailing character: slashes (/) for italics, carets (^) for a superscript, and underscores (_) for a subscript. Thus, use "$/E. coli/$" to italicize "E. coli", use "Ca$^2+^$" to incorporate a superscripted charge in "Ca2+", and use "H$_2_$O" to subscript the Hydrogen symbol in "H2O".
Using Special Characters
Molecular Vision supports a large number of special characters. To include a special character in your manuscript, locate the code for that character in one of the tables below. Simply replace the character with its code in your manuscript. For example, to place a "μ" in your article, use "$mu$" where it should appear in your manuscript. Likewise, using "M$uuml$ller" in your manuscript will produce the word "Müller". In most word processors, this formatting change can be done using the Find/Replace command. If you want a character that is not listed in the tables, please email the Editors to see if that character can be added.
