Figure 9. Topological arrangement of GMP19 in the cell membrane
EGFP has been fused to the NH2-terminal end of intact MP19 (GMP19). Even though the initial integration sequence is not able to integrate into the membrane, it still serves as a membrane signal and the other transmembrane segments apparently are sufficient to orient the protein within the membrane, much as MP19 with EGFP fused to the COOH-terminal end (MP19G; compare Figure 5F,G with Figure 3A,B).
