These instructions are a supplement to the Molecular Vision Instructions to Authors for authors planning to submit a manuscript as hard copy. These instructions do not supersede the Instructions to Authors. Authors submitting hard copy are still required to follow the Instructions to Authors. Submissions not following those instructions will be returned with a brief explanation.
Manuscripts may be submitted as hard copy for review, but they will not receive final acceptance until they are submitted in a digital form. It is the authors' responsibility to ensure that the text of the digital version of a manuscript is not different from that of the hard copy version.
Fee for Hard Copy Submissions
Regrettably, there are considerable expenses associated with hard copy submissions. To offset these costs, Molecular Vision has instituted a fee for hard copy submissions. Authors submitting hard copy must include a check for US$120 payable to "Molecular Vision". The fee must be included with the initial manuscript. Any hard copy revisions that are to be sent to reviewers will incur an additional fee. Fees for hard copy submission are not contingent upon the manuscript's acceptance. The fee only applies to hard copy submissions. No fee is necessary if you submit a digital version of your manuscript.
Submitting Hard Copy Text
Hard copy submissions of a manuscript must be in triplicate, including three complete sets of all figures and tables. The manuscript should be typed, one side only, on 8.5 x 11 inch (216 x 279 mm) paper with at least 1 inch (25 mm) of margin on all four sides. The text should be double spaced throughout the manuscript. Every page should be numbered and identified with the first author's name and an abbreviated title.
Submitting Hard Copy Figures
Hard copy submissions of figures must be in triplicate. This includes but is not limited to photographic prints, slides, drawings, or tracings (e.g., graphs, bar charts, ERGs, etc). If your figures were originally created as hard copy, there is little advantage in your digitizing them. The unique requirements of Web graphics are such that best results usually can be obtained in our offices by our graphics experts scanning your hard copy.
Pressure sensitive labels with the first author's name and the figure number (typed or neatly written) should be affixed to the back of each figure item submitted as hard copy. Hardcopies should be between 10 x 15 cm and 22 x 35 cm; within this range, larger is better. The only acceptable marking on figures is a magnification bar. Figures should not be marked in any other way. If arrows or other labels are necessary, a copy should be submitted with appropriate marks or labels.
