Figure 8. Estimated photoreceptor cell density of retinal cell cultures on DIV 6 following incubation in different conditions that affect the expression of AANAT rhythms
The density of photoreceptor cells was estimated by counting the number of polarized cell bodies containing the refractile lipid droplet characteristic of chicken retinal cone cells. Cells were counted in 3-4 random fields from each of 3 dishes incubated under each condition. The incubation conditions are defined in the legend to Figure 7. The estimated density of photoreceptor cells was significantly greater than that under all other conditions (p<0.001). No significant differences were observed among the other conditions with cultures seeded at 9x106 cells per dish. The estimated photoreceptor content of the low density group was significantly lower than that of the 0% serum group (p=0.039), but not of any other group except for the control.
