Table 3. Comparisons of a-crystallin lens membrane and vesicle binding
Previously reported binding capacity values for recombinant a-crystallins to lens membranes containing intrinsic membrane proteins were compared to the degree of binding to native lipid vesicles. Being that the vesicle plots were unsaturable, the highest value obtained was used for the comparisons. Values reported are in ng protein per mg vesicle or membrane. Heterocomplex is abbreviated "HC".
