Effects of ascorbic acid (A) or SOD (B) on λ-crystallin-enhanced NADH oxidation by superoxide generated enzymatically. NADH oxidation by superoxide generated by 20 μM xanthine and 5.5 μg/ml xanthine oxidase was measured at 50 μM NADH plus 82 μg protein/ml of partially purified λ-crystallin with or without ascorbic acid (0-20 μM) or SOD (0-0.21 μg/ml). NADH oxidation rates are plotted relatively to that without ascorbic acid and SOD.
