Total RNA isolated from freshly harvested, or cultured corneal epithelial cells and corneal fibroblasts was transcribed and amplified using primers for epithelial marker genes as described in Methods. Lane 1 is DNA size markers. Size is given in base pairs. Lane 2, fibroblasts; Lane 3, adult limbal cells passaged on plastic; Lane 4, corneal epithelial cells; Lane 5, fetal limbal cells on plastic.
