Figure 5. Twelve weeks post-wound keratocan in situ hybridization
In situ hybridization for the keratan-sulfate proteoglycan keratocan was performed in mouse eye sections at 12 weeks post-wound. Unlike 6 week keratocan expression, wounded mouse corneas are positive for keratocan implying a decrease in keratocan up to 6 weeks post-injury, and an upregulation prior to 12 weeks post-injury. A decreased amount of keratocan expression is still apparent as compared to a non-wounded control, most apparent in the alkali burn.
