Table 4. Rat lens gap junction activity from galactosemic and HAR-1 treated rats

Gap junction activity of normal and galactosemic rat lens was assayed by determination of the extent of dye transfer through the lens. Lenses were injected with 2.5 mg/ml Lucifer yellow (10 ml total volume) and the extent of dye transfer for 30 min at 25 °C was determined. The control group was on a normal diet, the galactose group was on a 40% galactose diet for 6 days, and the "galactose + HAR-1" group received HAR-1 at 100 mg/kg body wt/day, orally for 6 days. Dye transfer is from site of injection in mm.
