Figure 4. Gap junction activity of normal and galactosemic rat lens
Fresh rat lenses (three lenses pooled from three separate rats/group) were injected with 2.5 mg/ml Lucifer yellow (10 ml total volume) into each lens and the extent of dye transfer was measured for 30 min at 25 °C and expressed as mm dye transfer from site of injection. Control rats received a normal diet, galactose rats received a 40% galactose diet for six days, and galactose + HAR-1 rats received HAR-1 at 100 mg/kg body wt/day, orally, for six days. The numbers at the bottom are the distance of the dye transfer (mm) from the site of injection.
