Figure 2. Haplotypes of Icelandic individuals with macular corneal dystrophy

The haplotypes were named as in a previous publication [8]. Three haplotypes (1, 2, 4) were found among the 16 individuals with macular corneal dystrophy (MCD) type I, and three haplotypes (1, 3, 5) were among the 5 patients with MCD type II. Two individuals with MCD type I were homozygotes for haplotype 1. The shaded alleles represent a common ancestral founder haplotype 1 and its traces. The number of disease chromosomes per haplotype is shown in the row labeled "N". The frequency of the shaded alleles in the unaffected Icelandic control population is shown in the column labeled "F". Ancestral recombinations using both MCD type I and type II haplotypes restrict the MCD region to the interval between markers NP4 and AFMB317WF9. Markers in brackets indicate an unknown order.
