Figure 7. Retinoic acid levels in RPE and neural retinal of Mitfvit and C57BL/6 control mice at 6 weeks of age
To determine which ocular tissue accumulates RA, the distribution of RA between neural retina and RPE was analyzed. Neural retina was separated from RPE in Mitfvit and C57BL/6 control mice at 6 weeks of age. Retinoic acids were extracted and analyzed by reversed-phase HPLC as described in Methods. Similar levels of RA were observed in RPE; however, a marked elevation of RA was noted in the neural retina of Mitfvit mice compared to controls at 6 weeks of age. Values are means ± SD.
