The exons are represented by open boxes. The nucleotide sequences around the single base substitution at position 161 (G to A) in exon 1 is shown for the lop18 allele, the wild type allele, and the sequence for mouse [alpha]A in GenBank (Accession #: J00375). Two other base substitutions at position 264 and 273 (A to G) are shown in exon 2. The location of the PCR primers (Crya315 and Crya645) and the Dra III restriction enzyme recognition site in the lop18 sequence are also indicated. The primers Crya29, Crya1133, Crya889 and Crya2308 were used to amplify the whole gene by PCR.
