Figure 6. Light microscopic comparisons of normal and rd/rd pineal morphology
Pineal glands were obtained from 3 day old (A, B) and 79 day old (C, D) chickens. No apparent morphological differences were observed between the normal and rd/rd tissues at either age. Note that the size of the lumens of the follicles (L) decreases with age in both normal and rd/rd pineal suggesting that tissue differentiation is normal in the mutant pineal. Sections were stained using cresyl violet. The bar shown in panel D equals 20 µm. All panels were photographed using the same magnification.
