Figure 3. Reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction analysis shows that the microRNA expression in human retinal pigment epithelial cells is altered by proinflammatory cytokines. The cells were treated with interferon (IFN)-γ (100 u/ml), tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α (10 ng/ml), and interleukin (IL)-1β (10 ng/ml) for 16 h. Total RNA fractions were obtained from control or treated cells and the expression of selected microRNAs (miRNAs) were analyzed by real-time PCR. Increase in the expression in response to the proinflammatory cytokines was more pronounced in the case of miR-146a, miR-146b-5p, and miR-155. *p<0.0001 when compared to respective control, n=4. The data shown are representative of three separate experiments.
