Figure 3. Quantitative real time PCR data for ciliary epithelium (CE)-derived cell cultures following in vitro differentiation. RNA was isolated from CE-derived cells after in vitro differentiation on poly-D-Lysine, laminin coated plates in the presence of 1% serum and 10 ng/ml ml basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) and epidermal growth factor (EGF) for 20 days. The data was analyzed using REST software for the relative quantification. The expression ratio represents the ratio of expression in undifferentiated compared to differentiated cultures. After differentiation, protein kinase α (PKCα; p<0.05), calbindin (p<0.05), and rhodopsin (p=0.054) were upregulated, while the retinal progenitor marker Hes1 was downregulated (p<0.01). The data are from a representative experiment performed in triplicate. Similar results were obtained from three independent differentiation experiments.
