The average duration the membranes were in the eye before removal is related to the average area of the membrane, number of total nuclei and number of total Ki-67 positive cells. Note that proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) membranes were present in the eye for the shortest duration but had the most nuclei and divding cells whereas idiopathic epiretinal membrane (iERMs), which were present in the eye for the longest duration had fewer nuclei and divding cells compared to PVR.
