Figure 2. Analysis of cell markers in ARPE-19 cells by reverse transciptase PCR. Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO)- and fenretinide (FR)-treated cells express mRNAs normally associated with neuronal and retinal cells in culture and lose retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cell markers. mRNA expression was detected in DMSO- and FR-treated cells using reverse transcriptase PCR. Primer pairs based on human opsins, and retinal, neuronal, and RPE cell marker sequences were used to amplify products from equal amounts of cDNA. A no-template RNA control (NTC) and a reaction lacking reverse transcriptase (-RT) was included for each amplification. Tbp was amplified as a positive loading control.
