Three weeks after the third vaccination, STAT4 knockout (STAT4−/−) (open symbols) and BALB/c mice (closed symbols) were infected ocularly, and the presence of Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 (HSV-1) in tear films was monitored daily. For each point, the virus titer (y-axis) represents the average of the titers from 20 eyes. The error bars indicate the standard errors. A: Graph A shows virus replication in mock-vaccinated mice infected with 2×105 plaque-forming units (PFU) per eye.
