Group I rat pups received only saline; Group II rat pups received only selenite; Group III rat pups received selenite and rutin hydrate. The degree of opacification was graded as follows: 0 = normal transparent lens; + = initial sign of nuclear opacity involving tiny scatters; ++ = partial nuclear opacity; +++ = mature nuclear opacity.
