surface). The area of gap junctions is significantly reduced by
approximately 5 times from the outer cortex (~33%) to inner cortex
(~6%). A total of 539 junctions were counted in three replicas in the
outer cortex, and 141 gap junctions in three replicas in the inner
cortex.
