Figure 1. Expression of 14-3-3 proteins in the human cornea. Panels A-H show that all the 14-3-3 isoforms are expressed in the cornea while the 14-3-3σ isoform is restricted to the epithelium. Comparison of expression of 14-3-3 isoforms in the primary corneal cells with that in cell lines as determined by western blot analyses of whole cell lysates. Strong expression of 14-3-3 β, η, ε and σ is shown in the primary corneal epithelial cells (I), E6/E7 transformed corneal epithelia cells (J), and SV40 transformed corneal epithelia cells (K). The expression of 14-3-3 θ is barely detectable in primary corneal epithelial cells (I) and but is present in the E6/E7 and SV40 transformed cells (J and K). The expression of 14-3-3 γ is very weak in the three cell types (I, J, and K).
