A second independent experiment with a fresh cell population was repeated over an extended time course with HLE-B3 cells maintained in 0.5% serum and exposed to 1 μM 17β-E₂ for 90 min and 6 h (n=8, from two individual cell populations±SEM). The control represents cells that were not treated with 17β-E₂. Note the significant increase in activity (asterisk) detected with the 90 min incubation treated with 17β-E₂ and the return to equivalent control activity levels by 6 h of treatment (compare 6 h control versus 6 h +17β-E₂). n=8; the asterisk indicates statistical significance as determined by Student’s t-test.
