A shows the odds ratios with 95% confidence interval bars for individual Asian studies, and pooled results for Japan, China, and both in open angle glaucoma (OAG) cases versus controls. Odds ratios and confidence intervals are fixed effect estimates resulting from the Mantel-Haenszel method. B shows the case (OAG, filled circle) and control (open circle) proportion observed for each study. Total sample sizes are listed along the right-hand margin. None of the differences between case and control frequencies are statistically significant in a comparison of the odds ratios (as readily observed from the odds ratio confidence intervals) and frequencies of R545Q mutations in any of the Asian populations studied.
