Relative abundances of antibody-positive neurons in layers II/III, IV, and V/VI of primary visual cortex, for normal, strabismic and Y-blocked cats (mean percent immunopositivity with error bars representing one standard error of the mean). In layer II/III, perineuronal labeling percentages were not significantly different among the three conditions. In layer IV, the labeling percentage for strabismic and Y-block cortex was only about one half that of normal, while in Layer V/VI, the labeling was not significantly reduced for strabismic cat but was markedly reduced for Y-block cat.
