Figure 2. GFP expression in retinal whole mounts from normal mice following subretinal injection

Light micrographs of GFP expression in retinal whole mounts from normal mice following subretinal injection at various ages and sacrificed 1 to 6 weeks later. Weak GFP expression appeared in the form of scattered clumps of cells (arrows) around the injection site (*) at P3+9(A, mice injected at P3 and examined at P12). Peak GFP expression was detected 19 days following injection (B, P3+19). GFP expression (arrows) could still be observed throughout the retina six weeks after injection (C, P3+42). GFP expression was still evident 19 days after injection at P5 (D, P5+19). With injections at P7, the earliest GFP expression was detected 7 days later near the injection site (E, P7+7; note that the area in center is autofluorescence around optic nerve). "Clumps" of GFP expression (arrows) were observed in P7+14 (F). No detectable GFP expression was observed in the P14+14 retinas (G). Asterisk (*) represents injection site. The scale bar represents 1.0 mm.
