β-Integrin subunits not detected in the tree shrew sclera. Amplification products for β2- (A; 347 bp), β3- (B; 391 bp), β6- (C; 306 bp), and β7-integrin (D; 392 bp) subunits were detected in lung, liver, kidney, and leukocyte cDNA samples, respectively. Despite the use of several PCR protocols (see methods) no amplification products could be observed in scleral and scleral fibroblast samples. Lanes 1, 3, and 5 represent scleral, scleral fibroblast, and the respective positive control cDNA (β2-; lung, β3-; liver, β6-; kidney, and β7-integrin; leukocyte), while lanes 2, 4, and 6 are the respective total RNA controls. Molecular markers (100 bp) are included for product size comparison.
