Figure 5. Transfection efficiencies of multiple lipid-coated nanoparticle sizes and cores

Five transfection groups, including DNA alone, streptavin-Cy3 (SA), 5 nm gold nanoparticles (GNP), 25 nm semiconductor nanocrystals (NC), and 100 nm magnetic nanoparticles (MNP), were tested at three different DNA concentrations (100, 200, and 400 ng). All values were normalized to the 400 ng DNA alone group and all groups were coated with lipid. The 400 ng MNP group had statistically significant greater transfection (p<0.01), when compared to the 400 ng DNA alone, SA, GNP, or the NC groups using the Student's t-test.
