Figure 1. MUC1 and MUC16 gene expression in human corneal-limbal epithelial (HCLE) cells
A: No differences were detected qualitatively in the expression of MUC1 and MUC16 mRNA among groups in conventional RT-PCR. β2 microglobulin (β2-m) was a housekeeping gene for the conventional RT-PCR. B: Real time RT-PCR demonstrated that there was no significant difference in the amount of MUC1 transcripts between the control group and the BAC media treatment group (p=0.827), between the Ocuflox® eyedrops and ofloxacin solution treatment groups (p=0.275), and between the Alcaine® eyedrops and proparacaine solution treatment groups (p=0.400). C: Real time RT-PCR demonstrated that there was no significant difference in the amount of MUC16 transcripts between the control group and the BAC media treatment group (p=0.187), between the Ocuflox® eyedrops and ofloxacin solution treatment groups (p=0.275), and between the Alcaine® eyedrops and proparacaine solution treatment groups (p=0.377). The graphs show the mean values of three independent experiments; the error bars represent the standard deviation.
