A: Schematic three-dimensional CAD showing the different but related shapes and sizes of secondary fibers in a typical Y suture lens growth shell. B: The key straight and opposite end curvature fibers in this growth shell are shown in Panel A. Although the coincident, polar planar and noncoincident polar planar nature of, respectively, straight and opposite end curvature fibers are apparent in this two-dimensional image of a three-dimensional CAD, their true three-dimensionality is more dramatically illustrated in stereopair micrographs (C,D). The stereopairs of straight or planar (C) and opposite end curvature or nonplanar (D) fibers are best viewed at a separation of 2.5 inches with hand-held stereo viewers set to 65° parallax.
