Table 6. Opsin mRNAs in normal and glaucoma human eyes

In situ hybridization using each of the three opsin probes was performed on blocks of tissue harvested from the mid-peripheral retina of human donor eyes. Donors in this study had no history of ocular disease (human control represents HC) or a clinical record of being diagnosed with glaucoma (GL). Sections for each specimen were taken en face as described in Methods, and then scored for staining intensity using the following ratings: 0 represents no stain; 1 represents light staining; 2 represents moderate staining; 3 represents marked staining. For comparison, the visual field results of individuals that were diagnosed with glaucoma (if available) were also recorded.
