Deslorelin and transferrin functionalizations enhance corneal nanoparticle uptake in the bovine ex vivo eye model. A 50 μl drop of 1 mg/ml nanoparticle suspension (NP, deslorelin-NP, and transferrin-NP) was topically instilled on an isolated bovine eye maintained at 37 °C. After 5 (A) and 60 min (B), particle uptake in corneal epithelium, stroma, endothelium, and aqueous humor was quantified. The data are expressed as mean±SD for n=3. The asterisk indicates a p<0.05 compared to NP group and the sharp (hash mark) indicates a p<0.05 compared to stroma, endothelium, or aqueous humor.
