Table 1. Description of patients by age, sex, diagnosis, and associated ocular condition

To assess the effect on vitreous IR-ET-1 levels of RD and/or epiretinal tissue proliferation, patients with retinal disorders who were candidates for a first vitrectomy were selected. Patients in the study had a variety of diagnoses including asteroid hyalosis (AH), choroidal hemorrhage (CH), dislocated crystallin (DC), dislocated intraocular lens (DIOL), familial exudative vitreoretinopathy (FEVR), giant retinal tear (GRT), idiopathic epiretinal membrane (IERM), macular edema (ME), macular hole (MH), proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR), recurrent (R), retinal detachment (RD), retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), trauma (Trau), and uveitis (UVE). The columns marked with a sharp symbol (#) or an asterisk (*) indicate that the specimen was used for immunohistochemistry or RT-PCR, respectively.
