All cases (grade 3-5) and neovascular cases (grade 5) were compared to unrelated controls (grade 1-2) using a logistic regression model containing the variable of interest, adjusted for age and sex. Variables marked with an asterisk were continuous variables that were dichotomized at the median value in the total sample for analysis. The APOE variable was adjusted for ever smoking, age, and sex.
