Figure 3. Incorporation of 35S-methionine by rat lens
Incorporation of 35S-methionine by rat lens after 7 days in organ culture or immediately after dissection from freshly euthanized animal. Each lens was cultured in medium containing 300 μCi of 35S-methionine for 5 h. They were carefully rinsed, weighed, and radioactivity measured in the TCA insoluble fraction. In some instances the capsule/epithelium was separated from the fiber mass for separate analysis. A: Total DPM incorporated into the whole lens, epithelium and fibers. B: DPM incorporated per mg for the whole lens, epithelium, and fiber mass. Data are reported as the mean values of 8 whole lens samples and 4 epithelium and 4 fiber samples. The error bars represent the standard deviation.
