Figure 3. Effect of reduced FN expression on permeability of HTM monolayer

A: Phase contrast micrographs of HTM cells grown on inserts shows confluent monolayers prior to IVP assay. B: The permeability of fluorescein molecules was decreased in cells grown in high glucose (HG) medium. In cells transfected with antisense FN oligo (HG+AS-FN) high glucose induced FN overexpression was reduced and monolayer permeability was increased. Cells transfected with random oligos (HG+Ran) had no effect on FN expression or permeability. Data is expressed as mean±standard deviation; the asterisk indicates a p value of <0.05 (n=9).
