PCR amplification of a 456 bp region of the nlacZ gene from genomic DNA extracted from the separated outer nuclear layer (ONL), the remaining inner nuclear layer (INL) and ganglion cell layer (GCL), or an intact retinal section containing all three layers. The cell layers included in the DNA extraction are indicated above the gel lanes. A 123 bp DNA ladder was run in the leftmost lane of the gel and amplified DNA from a non-injected control retina was run in the rightmost lane.
