Effect of combined addition of transforming growth factor β2 (TGFβ2) and fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF2) to culture medium on proliferation of lens epithelial cell line, αTN4. Cell growth was evaluated using the determination of bromo-deoxyuridine incorporation as described in Methods. TGFβ2 at 0.43 ng/ml suppressed proliferation of αTN4 cells, while FGF2 (3.43 ng/ml) enhanced proliferation. Growth suppression by TGFβ2 was cancelled by adding FGF2 at 3.43 ng/ml.
