Table 1. Distribution of GSTM1 positive and null type in patients and controls according to age

There was a significantly higher frequency of the GSTM1 null genotype in patients less than 60 years old when compared to individuals in the control group (<60 years old; p=0.007). Patients between 50 and 60 years of age also showed a significantly higher frequency of the GSTM1 null genotype compared to controls of the same age group (p=0.036). No significant difference was observed in patients and controls more than 60 years old (p=0.361).
