Figure 5. Growth factor-induced enhancement of ROS generation in human lens epithelial cells
This figure illustrates the effects of different growth factors on the production of ROS in the presence and absence of DPI or N-acetyl cysteine (NAC). EGF, FGF, TGF-β, PDGF, and LPA significantly (P<0.05) increased the production of ROS in serum starved human lens epithelial cells, an effect completely abolished in cells pretreated with either the anti-oxidant N-acetyl cysteine or with the flavoprotein inhibitor, DPI.
